Problem
Senior leaders were struggling to make critical project decisions due to the quality of cost and schedule information they were receiving.
Situation
Cost and schedule information being provided to senior leader was at too great a level of detail, making it slow to digest, and lacked the insights and recommendations that would support timely project adjustments. Relationships between the teams responsible for collating and processing the information were poor in some areas, and team members often felt unable or uninspired to make improvements to their work product.
Our solution
We facilitated a series of workshops within the central team responsible for the cost and schedule information, focusing on building their intrinsic motivation and personal resilience. These sessions were designed to increase the team members' desire to achieve, ability to persevere when faced with challenges, and willingness to identify and take responsibility for things that they could improve.
The result
Within a few months the senior leadership team expressed delight with the level of cost and schedule insights being provided. The cost and schedule team were proactively recommending improvements to reports plus receiving and acting on feedback without becoming defensive. Colleagues outside the cost and schedule team stated that they had seen a complete shift in that team's attitude to their counterparts in other part of the project, from one of blame to one of collaboration and personal accountability.
